Dennis Murray and Peter Forsberg
Quotes
Passionate About Teaching

"When I came to Colorado as a member of the Avalanche Hockey Club I had a casual interest in the game of golf and scored in the low to mid-80's.  After becoming a student of Dennis Murray, he made the game so much easier for me that my scores dropped into the 70's,  and at times close to par.  Golf is now a big part of my life, so much so I now own a golf course in Sweden.  If you want to enjoy golf to the fullest ... spend some time with Coach Murray." - Peter Forsberg, NHL HOF, Colorado Avalanche, MVP

"Dennis Murray is an extraordinary golf instructor for many reasons. One reason is everyone that seeks his advice on their golf game gets what they paid for. He always listens to his students and takes their information to help them get what they want. Over the years he has improved my game from being a weekend warrior to having a golf game that will travel because I break 80 most of the time on most golf courses and I'm in my 60's. Having referred many of my friends to Coach Murray, I know for a fact he helped every one of them play a better game of golf. He seems to have the uncanny ability to fix several problems in a person's golf swing by fixing the "right" thing and the rest just kinda happens.' Most of all my friend Dennis Murray cares more about teaching beginners than any great teacher I've ever seen. Entry level teachers teaching entry level golfers is bad for the game. No one needs an expert more than a beginner, but most beginners seem to gravitate to teachers that are beginners at teaching. Won't work out for you. So, if you are a beginner and want to learn right and do it fast, pay the extra money and go to Coach Murray ... you'll be glad you did."  -W. C. Carpenter, May 2019

"I have taken lessons with other instructors that focused on the mechanics of the swing.  Dennis takes a different approach starting with a series of questions to determine how I learn, left brain vs right brain. I liked the results of his approach which freed up my swing and got more balls flying closer to my target line."  -Ron Hileman, January 2020

"Dennis Murray is a wonderful Golf Professional who is personable and skillful as an instructor.  Dennis helped me work on my golf swing for a full week back in the 80's when I was still playing the PGA Tour.  His instruction was great and helped my game very much." - Jerry Pate,  U.S. Open Champion, PGA TOUR PLAYERS Champion, Member of PGA Champions Tour

"Although "Murph" knows the golf swing as well as anyone when it comes to technical analysis, what makes him an amazing golf coach is his ability to communicate with each student, regardless of skill level - to get immediate improvements in a matter of minutes, making it easy for his students to correct swing faults and change the ball flight.  His uncanny ability to find one corrective action that fixes several swing errors is magical.  He did this with me and I've seen him do this time after time with other golfers as well.  What he did for my golf game in 8 lessons was incredible and still works today. Thanks to Dennis Murray, I have enjoyed playing the game of golf for the past 25+ years at a level beyond my wildest dreams. Just imagine if you were a hacker, a wannabe golfer, and met a Pro that taught you how to hit the irons 25 yards farther and the driver 50 yards longer off the tee!  I was that hacker, golfer wannabe guy and Dennis Murray was that Pro ... he is the best!" - Scott Hamilton, Olympic Gold Medalist, Figure Skating

"I see so many people at driving ranges thinking they can figure out how to hit the golf ball better by working at it harder and harder, and all they do is get madder and madder - they remind me of me before I met Dennis Murray.  This guy knows golf.  He will explain the truth to you, simplify it for you and show you how to do what he is talking about with your golf club.  So refreshing.  If you want to play better, hit the ball better and score better, you should contact Dennis Murray at Valley Country Club." -J.T. Jones, 2020

"Dennis Murray has been a true friend and a first class person in every respect for over 35 years.  During that time he has established an enviable reputation as a player, teacher and coach with enormous golf knowledge."

-Buddy Alexander, University of Florida, Golf Coach, 1986 U.S.G.A. National Amateur Champion

"Dennis' knowledge of the golf swing and his ability to communicate it in a way that is effective for all skill levels is remarkable.  He seems to enjoy teaching my kids equally as much as helping me with my game.  Dennis' coaching has helped me lower my scores from the 80's to the mid 70's and sometimes par or better.  What he taught me is timeless as I'm still improving."

-Joe Sakic, NHL Hall of Fame, MVP Colorado Avalanche, General Manager

"Dennis Murray is a gentleman of the highest integrity, a fine player and outstanding teacher of the game of golf."

Warren Smith, Golf Professional Emeritus, Cherry Hills CC, Colorado Golf Hall of Fame

"When I started playing golf as a junior golfer, I took lessons from Dennis Murray every week for one summer and continued seeing him regularly for several years.  My golf game improved tremendously while I worked with Dennis and I benefitted not only from his expert knowledge of the golf swing and the game itself, but also from the inspiration and motivation that he provided.  Dennis is a gifted teacher with an uncommon combination of expert knowledge and the down to earth manner and communication skills to get through to his students. -Ed Mate, Executive Director, Colorado Golf Association

"My son Brett was under the tutelage of Dennis Murray for 5 years.  During this time Brett grew as a person and a golfer.  He won the Colorado Junior Golf Association State Championship and many other tournaments, becoming one of the top high school players in Colorado, becoming a scholarship recipient and member of the Colorado State University Men's Golf Team.  Coach Murray's teachings and mentorship had a tremendous impact on Brett's golf game and his life." -Dwight Tobyne, Father, Member of Bear Creek GC

"I made the decision to take up the game of golf because it seemed like a great way to spend time outdoors with my friends and family members. As a female beginner with no golf clubs, limited experience playing sports and knowing very little about the game of golf, I was nervous and somewhat intimidated about taking golf lessons.  Didn't want to look stupid or embarrass myself.  I was told PGA Professional Dennis Murray, at Valley Country Club was the best in the Denver area, so I gave him a call and I am so glad that I did. Dennis was so nice to me right from the start.  When I arrived at Valley CC he made me feel so welcome, I felt like a member of the club.  We visited for awhile over a cup of coffee, discussed my goals, learning style and what the first lesson would involve.  He took me for a golf cart ride around the golf course and pointed out basics about the golf course like the different heights of grasses between teeing areas, fairways and greens.  He even showed me how to drive the golf cart.  Dennis provided brand new Women's golf clubs for my first lesson and it was so much fun. After the lesson we discussed lesson packages and I purchased one that fit my needs and budget.  Coach Murray loaned me a golf club with a training grip to practice my swing between lessons. A month or so later he fit me for a set of clubs that I purchased and continued my lessons with. After 8 lessons I was  consistently hitting the ball off the ground and up in the air, playing 9 holes once a week or more and having so much fun. I signed up for another package of lessons and will keep taking lessons and practicing as long as I continue to improve. Coach Dennis Murray is amazing.  His laid back approach and ability to communicate makes the instruction so easy to understand  and the game easy to learn.  But most of all, Coach Murray's nurturing spirit and enthusiasm made me forget all about my concern for embarrassing myself. I recommend Dennis Murray for anyone that wants to take up the game of golf or wanting to play better golf ... he is terrific!"

-Amanda Harding, September 2019

"My golf game was so bad I was ready to pack it in and give up the game once and for all.  I had taken lessons from a lot of teachers but instead of improving, I kept getting worse.  So, I started reading books, magazine articles, watching Golf Channel and a zillion You Tube golf instruction videos.  End result?  I started hating golf. The more information I acquired the more frustrated I got and my golf scores kept going higher and higher.  I tried spending money on new clubs and that didn't work. Then I heard about Dennis Murray at Valley Country Club.  The rest is history!  After my first session that included a swing and short game assessment, goals discussion and a golf lesson I had an entirely new outlook and approach to playing golf.  I purchased a package of 8 lessons and my game steadily improved.  Now, I'm playing the best golf of my life and still getting better because of Coach Murray. If you want to play better golf and have more control of your game Coach Murray is the guy to call." -Billy McGuire, July 2019

Dennis, "The responsibility to "teach" is very serious, because it affects the future and goals of those being taught.  Your concern for EDUCATION--Your giving of your knowledge and expertise--ultimately results in the upgrading of the Association and makes the PGA of America and its Members the "Leaders in Golf."  Thank you, Dennis." - Jan Gilpin, Director of Education, PGA of America
